This is the second CD from the duo Skáidi, and just like the first CD (DATCD-44 Where the Rivers meet) this one also contains old person yoiks, new yoiks and improvisations. Both in yoik and jazz there is a tradition of making new recordings of important parts of the musical repertoire (old standards). Several of the person yoiks have been previously published, but re-appear here in new musical takes. Jazz and yoik are two distinct expressions that create a natural unity, two rivers floating together as one, Skáidi. The collaboration between Inga Juuso and Steinar Raknes started in 1999, when they were both employed by Kultur i Troms (Culture in Troms), where Inga still is employed as the regional yoiker. Skáidi the duo didn’t become a reality until 2007 and has gradually become widely demanded artists touring around the world. With roots in the traditional yoik Inga Juuso carries a tremendous heritage, and manages to renew and continue this heritage with both her openness, and her total artistic presence and expression. With his straight and explosive playing style Steinar Raknes is one of the front jazz bassist in Norway.
