HI!
Been a busy fall. Touring and finishing two new albums. Just released a New Conception of Jazz Boxset . 3 Cds + 1 DVD. Unreleased live material, compilation of "my favourite songs", Live concert from Montreux featuring my great friend Dhafer Youssef.
Also just finishhed a new solo album - Playing, will be out early next year.
My Fall tour started September (after a 3 day hike on Hardangervidda) going to Japan for a week. Did 3 concerts and met with lots of nice people.

October started with a too short visit to Budapest and Touluse before going for a weekend to the
So dedicated and nice people there. Turning out one of my favourite Festivals . So much good and interresting things happening in the east. Have to admit people over there seems more dedicated and upcoming than us lazy westerns..
Another highligth came up in November going to China and Mongolia. As I always wanted to go to Ulan Bataar it was a bit dissaponiting to enter an extremely polluted city. However music was facinating and a 4 hour trip(by car:) into the amazing landscape helped alot. Want to go back to live in a Ger for a while. Beijing just gets more impressing every time. Saw my great friends again. Performed as first time Electronic jazz in the Forbidden City. Visitited the newly built

The coolest Hotel! centered in the Sanlitun area. Why bother going to N.Y. anymore?:) Beijing has it all, just much better, nicer, more interresting, challenging, impressing (out of compliments..). Again: Its all going on in the East

Hi. back from an endless summer:) Had some superb moments traveling around. New York was among the highlights. Did four small concerts at Cielo togehter with the great Francois K. and at Nublu in east village. Great place and vibe. Reminds me of Jazid. A great mid 90ties Club in Oslo mixing jazz and electronic music and a danceable feel.
Lofoten in north of Norway was also a beautiful experience. We ate raw whale the sashimi way..

During my stay in New York i ran into this amazing drummer performing in the sub. Wish I knew his name!
Also went seeing the band Fieldwork
perfoming at The Stone. I loved them with theyre fresh aproach. Hope to see them in Euorpe vey soon!! Herbie must be retiring soon now.. time for something new!

Uploaded a videoclip from Eivind Aarset and Michiyo Yagi's phenomenal webconcert from my studio in April. Beautiful music! Koto, Basskoto, Guitar and sounds.

Returned from a beautiful trip to Maputo, Mozambique. Spent two weeks making music for the nacional dance company there and met so many nice people. Had the pleasure of working together with the famous Timbila player Eduardo Duaro and his Ensemble. Highlights came every afternoon listening to the group's rehearsals under the backyard mangotree of the theatre. Dancers suddenly transforming into a vocalgroup. Soundengineer and me dancing in the background :). Check my little video and some pics. Soundrecording is from the rehearsal. Could go back any time and hoping to do so...
Anyway back home preparing for the summer. Looking specially forward to a week in New York doing four small clubvenues. Among them Deep Space with the great Francois Kevorkian and doing three concerts at The Nublu club in East Village. Will be my first "real" trip to New York. Heard much about a interesting and growing new jazzscene there again and look forward to check it out.

Hi! Doing a new Intermediate Solopiano session from my studio monday 11.feb at 10PM Oslo time. Felt good doing the first one end of december and want to continue hopefully monthely out this year. recording in high quality for a possible release. Just feels better playing piano with an audience around ( and not to near.))

Heard two superb turkish groups. Mercan Dede Tribe and Babazula featuring Aleksander Hacke from Einsturze Neubaten. generally most of the up and coming stuff im hearing these days comes from the eastern part of Europe and Asia. Loads of talent and strong energy there.

Back from first edition of my releasetour.
"IM" came out last week and its getting great feedback it seems. My releaseconcert at Belleville last week went well exept the Webcast did not work. So sorry and all my fault.. Realized to late I was using my own computer for my concert..
Trying to borrow another one did not lead to any positive results, 5 minutes before showstart we had to give up. Anyway putting out a clip of the concert here. Meanwhile been to Spain and visiting Germany and Bosnia next week, particulary looking forward to Sarajevo 2. and 3. nov..

Hi. Finally back after an endless summervacation
with lots of news. I have finished my new album "IM". will be out in october. A "real" soloalbum basically with piano and some electronics. Mari Boine guesting vocals on one tune. Im actually happy with it (at the moment at least:)

We had a lovely summer camp at the Badechieff in Berlin. An artificial beach am river Spree close to Kreuzberg. If any chance. Visit Berlin now. A great City with a superb vibe. Some places are known for business. Berlin is known for Art and Music.
Also put out an old recording from North Sea Jazzfestival 2004. New Conception of Jazz Featuring Dafher Youssef on vocals.
On one track of the album i really wanted to comment the enormous trauma civillians in wars go through. During the recordingperiod i heard an interview with a conglesian woman telling her deeply terrible story of beeing kidnapped by rwanda militia. her story and the way she told it were so devastating i was really set out. I did ask for pemission to use some of her voice on my track "WY" and got it from her as she wants her story to be known. The lawless situation in Congo is terrible at the moment and unfortunately her story is not unique. Everyday people and specially women are kidnapped and treated in the worst ways possible. Can we live with this?

Theyre traumas as oppose to my easy life seen on the holliday picture is a part of my "WY" comment. The dual feeling, my feelings towards people in Irak - Afghanistan - Congo - Sudan and many other places and at the same time so glad me and my family are not there. can I do more?
Im feeling guilty.
I think us europeans have to realize that most of our velfare, democracy and other goods have been built by exploiting and colonising Africa, Asia and South America. All with enormous brutality. Im afraid that brutality have been europeans main lesson to colonies around the world the last 500 years or so. If it only could have been redone.

As a huge contrast to all of this me and my friend Tore Brunborg just returned from a stunning 3 days trip
in Hardangervidda. Mindblowing! complete silence and beauty. Skiied for two days seeing noone..This place is some of the best Norway has to offer and gives you the full understanding of the "norwegian soul".

Just got back from a great weekend starting in Padova. Lovely city and wonderful people there.
Then moving on to perform with the Hermitage Symphony Orchestra in side the Hermitage palace in St.Petersburg. Check photo of the place. We actually performed inside the most visited museum in the world. containing probably the greatest selections of painters ever existing. Amazing experience...

HAPPY NEW YEAR. Wishing You All a Great New Year filled with expectations and dreams to come true. Personally, I felt 2006 was a bit quiet due to different reasons, but when looking back I realize lots of good stuff happened.
Some highlights:
NO+CH Festival in China. Truly great happening with Norwegian and Chinese artists joining in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

That's actually something to celebrate. I'm quite proud of what we have done and released over these years!

My friendDhafer Youssef released his solo albumDivine Shadows. Extremely well received (on most critics' top 10 list ). Almost climbing on the popcharts;)

Had two great gigs with Jazzland Community at Oslo Jazzfestival and PS FESTIVAL 2006 in Copenhagen last weekend. This Thursday and Friday 24. and 25.August I will attend PUNKT Festival in Kristiandsand organized by my good friends Jan Bang and Erik Honoré. Had a great weekend performing with new conception of jazz and 01.John Scofield in Moerse festival 8 Germany) and Nattjazz(Norway). both concerts were good. the concert from Bergen was streamed with "limited" success i think:). Anyway it was taped on multitrack and i will put out a sample of the concert for those who missed it soon. John is an amazing Guitarplayer and also a really nice guy treating us "Norwegians" in a very good way.
next week im off for concerts with Laurent Garnier in Arles(south of France) and Sonar festival in lovely Barcelona. Will be fun to!!

Had a great stay in Germany. performed as a guest with Gen:lon´s releaseconcert at
Bohannen club in Berlin on friday. Nice place and nice crowd. Alex from Jazzanova did a great set also. Berlin has such a nice vibe. relaxed and cool.

Saturday 27. we went to Scloss Neuhardenburg
to do a Bugge Wesseltoft feat Gen:lon set. A beautifully renovated Castle with a distinct cultural approach.Lots of good stuff going on there.
Now looking forward to the upcoming gigs together with John Scofield and the good old new conception of jazz again. Moerse and Bergen coming up. Bergen concert on saturday will 99% be streamed as a Live from Buggesroom concert!!!

Sorry for beeing quiet so long. Have been very busy composing a commitionwork for Brassband and trombonesolo.Stavanger Brass Featuring Nils Landgren. Performed it last week at Maijazz in Stavanger. Went well ! Personally I joined in on the bassdrum fullfilling an old dream:)
Also did a Duo concert - with Frode Gjerstad A legend in Norways Freemusic scene and a "teacher" for most of the young generation of Free Oriented Norwegian musicians. Frode plays very beautiful and honest. Wish i had a recording of it!!! will get it i think.
Speaking of brassband. 17.may is Norways national day heavily celebrated with parades and children. quite fun though some might find it a bit nationalistic..Strangely it seems to always rain on this day:) Check our local brassband. Funky too!

Bergen Jazzfestival wanted me to select a brand new Grandpiano for them. Cool visit. Check out the specially designed Steinway grand by Karl Lagerfeld. A must in every home.
Webconcert yesterday went well but had some technical problems. SORRY!! Did not even manage to log in the chat..But.. concert was great.

Started out Easter by performing withCrimetime Orchestra. A sort of FREE BIGBAND. Really cool music. Among musicians: Drummer Paal N.Love - Bassist Ingebrigt Flaten And Guitarist Anders Hana. Great Band!!! Check a clip here.

Finishing up the jazzpart I started rehearsing with the Metalgroup System:Obscure for our Debut Concert at Infernofestivalen in Oslo. A Festival for Metal Music. Was a great expeience! Such good musicians and music. And a truly dedicated audience. I had to chance to play on my Hammond B3 organ run throug a Marshall stack.YEAhYEAh!!

Returned from a beautiful 4 day skiingtrip over Hardangervidda. If you will ever get a chance DO IT! The Colors - The Distances - The Wind - The Silence is comparable to anything and is a hidden treasure for finding the" meaning of life"

Had a great great Concert at Jazzcafe London with Jazzland community. Full house and a superb Audience! Thank you!
Next week i will be skiing for 4 days crossing Hardangervidda together with my good friend Tore Brunborg(Great saxophone player!).
Hoping to bring back some great pictures. Back in the studio Thursday. Just before going to Vossajazz performing with Crimetime Orchestra followed by a guestappearance with the Extrememetal group System Obscure at Inferno festival in Oslo. Looking greatly forward to that having a deep respect for metal music and musicians, and having a chance to play my Hammond B3 run through Marshall Amplifier.

Was a real good show in Paris - New Morning. Nice club and fantastic audience. "The Jazzland Community" this time also including Dj.Strangefruit presenting his "MONGOLIAN JETSET". The album to be released soon. Great stuff! Mix of electronic music and jazz from a DJ´s perspective. Check a clip from the concert!

Finished the tour of "Jazzland Community" at Cosmopolite yesterday. The Tour went really well! As we played a lot more outside Norway than inside it was great to be "back". Full houses everywhere and the Audiences were so receptive. All of us were both happy and amazed.
The concert stream from Cosmopolite in Oslo also went perfectly well yesterday!!! Finally!!
Already looking forward to the Gigs in March
in Paris and London.
Torun Eriksen's new album "Prayers and Observations" got fantastic reviews after the Norwegian release last week. International release is March. Look forward to it! Great album. Trying to set up a amall "showcase" in my studio on 1st of March

Visit from China.The Beijing DJs Patrick Yu and Gao Hu are coming to Norway to play at the Polarjazzfestival at Svalbard. They are also doing a concert together with Dj. Strangefruit, Håvard Wiik and myself in Oslo + meeting some great Oslo artists.
Fantastic light at Svalbard. A bit dark though :)
